WWE Summerslam: All the Matches

Here's what's happening on August 21

On Sunday, August 21, WWE's biggest summer event, SummerSlam, comes to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

This year's event promises to be one of the biggest yet with multiple titles on the line, featuring well-known superstars alongside fresh faces brought up from NXT.

We'll keep you updated as more matches are added to the card, including the pre-show, as well as our predictions closer to the PPV. As of now, here are the seven matches taking place at SummerSlam.

John Cena vs AJ Styles

When AJ Styles first appeared this year, during the Royal Rumble, fans lost their collective minds. He's had a long career from WCW to TNA to New Japan. John Cena, on the other hand, has rose to the top of his game at WWE.

Both of these men are seasoned veterans and have already had a couple of great matches against each other, including their memorable Money in the Bank match, which had an awful finish. In order for Styles to be the best, he has to get through the best. Can he cleanly do it this time or will Cena prevail?

Brock Lesnar vs Randy Orton

After his victory at UFC 200 against Mark Hunt, "The Beast" Brock Lesnar is back, but this time, he's taking on Randy Orton, who has been injured all of this year. Orton made his return in a big way by giving Lesnar an RKO "outta nowhere" on a recent episode of Raw.

Obviously, there were repercussions, and in WWE, "repercussions" are usually punches to the face. It's all building to this match. There's nothing really at stake here, except for pride.

Sasha Banks (c) vs Charlotte

(For the WWE Women's Championship)

The women's division has really heated up in the past year, since NXT stars Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, and Charlotte came to the main stage. Banks recently won the title from Charlotte, who is seeking to regain the gold.

These two have put on some amazing matches over the past few years, and this rivalry is just starting to heat up. Expect both of them to leave it all on the line.

The Miz (c) vs Apollo Crews

(For the Intercontinental Championship)

The next title defense at SummerSlam is the Intercontinental Championship. The Miz has held onto the IC strap for an impressive amount of time, closing in on 200 days. He'll be taking on newcomer Apollo Crews, who has wowed audiences with his athleticism since coming over from NXT.

There isn't much of a rivalry built up between these two stars for the match, and the biggest thing on the line is Miz's ego, as he continues to dominate anyone that takes him on for the belt. By "dominate," we mean "pull classic heel moves like a distraction from his wife and manager," to gain the win.

The New Day (c) vs Gallows and Anderson

(For the WWE Tag Team Championship)

Tension has been building by the longtime Tag Champs, the New Day, and newcomers Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows. The two members of The Club have been interfering in the New Day's matches for weeks, and now, they'll be taking each other on for the tag belts.

New Day's Big E is injured, so both Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods will be defending the belt, which means a whole lot less of Francesca II during the match. Can the champs defend their title against this monstrous duo?

Dean Ambrose (c) vs Dolph Ziggler

(For the WWE World Championship)

During the WWE Draft, Smackdown drafted Dean Ambrose, and along with him came the WWE World Championship. Now, Ambrose is defending his title against the showoff, Dolph Ziggler, who won the right to face Ambrose after beating five other men.

Ziggler doesn't want this opportunity to slip away, and he has faced great odds to get this chance.

Finn Bálor vs Seth Rollins

(For the WWE Universal Championship)

Finn Bálor shocked the world by beating Roman Reigns on a recent episode of Raw, in order to gain the right to fight Seth Rollins for the new WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam. This will be Raw's main championship belt.

Rollins wants to be a champion again, and Bálor wants to prove to the world that he can dominate just like he did in NXT. The real question is whether or not Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows will have any involvement in the match, since Bálor was the original leader of the Bullet Club in NJPW. Probably not, but one can hope.
